Rick Springfield was recently on Oprah (watch the video) and as he performed “Jessie’s Girl” and the women I hesitate to call “middle-aged” — because I’m 38 and was rockin’ along with them via TV — were going nuts for him.







Who did Rick Springfield tell Oprah was the real Jessie’s Girl?

It’s funny, but Rick couldn’t actually remember the name of the “hot” girl who inspired the song that many people love and can relate to.

But Springfield did remember that the real “Jessie” of “Jessie’s Girl” was a guy named Gary.

I knew Jessie’s Girl had to have been inspired by real life — that longing and those lyrics were too genuine to be make believe.









Oprah gave away copies of Rick Springfield’s CD…

…an original recording remastered CD called Working Class Dog.

Before that though, Rick kind of opened up about life with his wife, whom he said put up with a lot from him.









How old is Rick Springfield?

Like many other 50-plus-year-old men as Pastor R.A. Vernon recently preached about (as he was taught from Bishop Joey Johnson), the 58-year-old Rick Springfield sounded pensive and more thoughtful and grateful than perhaps he had been in years prior.

Not that he ever appeared selfish to me.

In the meantime, I kept thinking about those scenes in the movie Music and Lyrics, wherein Hugh Grant plays a affable 1980s pop star who has a small and loyal following of housewives and such going crazy for him at concert venues played in odd places.

Is that really me now? I asked my 38-year-old self.

Ah well.

At least we’re all still alive and fighting the good fight…
